Objective: The present study aimed to determine the effectiveness of sensory diet combined with yoga on emotional self-regulation and symptoms of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder. Methods:The research employed a quasi-experimental design with a pre-test-post-test and control group framework. The statistical population comprised all male elementary school students aged 7-12 years in Aligudarz City. A total of 30 participants were selected through sensory screening and hyperactivity rating scale and were randomly assigned to two groups: an experimental group (sensory diet with yoga) and control group (sensory-motor integration). Data were collected using the short and revised form of Connors Parent Rating Scale, the Wechsler Intelligence Scale, the Sensory Profile Questionnaire and the Shields and Cicchetti Emotion Regulation Checklist. The yoga training program included physical (asana), breathing (pranayama) and relaxation exercises, while the control group followed Barbara Fink's sensory-motor integration protocol. Both groups trained for 12 sessions, each lasting 45-60 minutes, held three times per week. Data were analyzed using multivariate analysis of covariance at a significance level of P ≤ .05. Results:The results indicated that sensory diet combined with yoga did not significantly improve overall emotion regulation (p = 0.04, F = 31.232, ƞ2 = 0.83). However, it significantly improved the emotional instability index (p = 0.002, F = 0.359,ƞ2= 0.86). Furthermore, the sensory diet combined with yoga led to significant improvement in the symptoms of students with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity) (p = 0.001, F = 11.45, ƞ2=0.16). Conclusion:These findings can draw the attention of educational planners and officials to the importance of sensory diet combined with yoga in improving emotional instability and symptoms of students with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder in elementary school boys.
