Objective: The present study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of the TEACCH method on improving executive functions and reducing the symptoms of autism spectrum disorder. Method: This research employed quasi-experimental, pre-test-post-test and control group framework. A total of 30 children with autism spectrum disorder referred to the Urmia Omid Pioneers Center were selected using simple random sampling and were assigned to 2 groups: an experimental group (n=15) receiving TEACCH method training and a control group (n=15) receiving no intervention. Before and after the intervention, the participants completed Coolidge Executive Functions Questionnaire and Gilliam questionnaire. Data were analyzed using multivariate analysis of variance. Results: The finding indicates that TEACCH training intervention was significantly effective in improving organization (p <.01), planning-decision making (p <.01) and inhibition
(p <.01). Furthermore, the effectiveness of TEACCH method on reducing autism symptoms including developmental problems (p <.01), social interaction deficits (p <.01), stereotyped behaviors (p <.01), communication difficulties (p <.01), was statistically significant. Conclusion: Based on the obtained results, psychologists and counselors can utilize TEACCH educational method as an effective intervention for improving executive functions and reducing symptoms of autism spectrum disorders.
