Evaluation and Comparison of the Upper Limb Musculoskeletal Structure and the Static Balance in Children with Visual and Hearing Impairment
Abstract:   (1226 Views)
Objective: Musculoskeletal disorders are injuries that occur in people with inappropriate posture while doing work and homework for a long time and cause pain in the neck, back, shoulders, arms and other areas. The purpose of this study was the Evaluation and comparison of the upper limb musculoskeletal structure and the static balance in children with visual and hearing impairment and normal students. Methods: The statistical population was boys aged 6-14 years with severe and profound vision and hearing impairment. This descriptive analytic study was performed on 30 low- vision boys, 30 low- hearing boys and 30 normal boys, which who selected from the available community by purposeful nonrandomized sampling in order to assess the forward head posture and round shoulder in lateral view and lateral head flexion and uneven shoulder in sagittal plan using digital imaging camera and Outocad software. In addition, kyphosis was assessed using flexible ruler (r=/091), static balance was assessed using modify stork test )r=/087(. One-way ANOVA and scheffe post hoc test was used to compare the groups using the SPSS (ver. 20) software (detection limit P≤0.05). Results: Data analysis showed a significant difference between the groups in forward head angle (p=0/001), rounded shoulder (p=0/001), lateral head flexion (p=0/001) and uneven shoulder (p=0/001). Besides, there were significant differences in kyphosis rate between the low -vision group (p=0/001) and low- hearing (p=0/04) groups. The results of the static balance test revaled a significant difference between the low- vision with low- hearing groups (p=0/001), and between low- vision and normal groups (p=0/001). Conclusion: According to the results of this study, visual and hearing impairment will reduce balance and cause postural problems in these people. So, for improving postural alignment status, Controlling and reducing deformity, and maintaining proper physical condition are necessary in these individuals.
