The present study is aimed at finding out the prevalence of dyscalculia as a learning disorder in primary schools of Tehran (2001). Applying cluster sampling, a group of 4341 fourth and fifth grade students (2162 boys, 2179 girls) from 8 schools in different districts of Tehran were selected. By administering the diagnostic checklist of DSM IV to the group, 112 students were identified. Then, WISC- R(Shiraz norm) was applied for eliminating the ones with IQs below the mean, and the achievement test of Key- Math (Farsi version) was applied as a criteria for the level of functioning in mathematics. As a result, 71 subjects were identified. The results according to Kirk's proposed formula are: The prevalence of dyscalculia in fourth and fifth grade student's arel.47% and 1.77%, respectively. Considering the results of intelligence and achievement tests the prevalence is 1.63%. Dyscalculia is more prevalent in fifth grade students and in girls
