Developing Picture-Phoneme Deletion Tests AndStudy of Their Validity and Reliability in Persian Speaking Children in First to Third Grade

Objectives: The aim of the present study is to develop the phonological awareness test in phoneme deletion task and to study its validity and reliability in Persian-speaking children of first to third gradeof primary schools. Methods: the present study is a cross-sectional analytic one from the instrument-making point of view. After developing of the test, its content validity was studied by Lawshe’s method and Inappropriate items modification or excluded. In this study 300 Persian 7 to 9 years old students from first to third grade participate who are from public schools of one and two areas of Shahrekord.They were selected by multistage sampling. After the experimental and final performance of the test, its reliability was investigated. For analysis, SPSS software version 21 is used. Results: Content validity index for each initial, middle and final phoneme deletion subtests were respectively 89/0, 86/0 and 93/0. Cronbach’s alpha correlation coefficient for each of these subtests was respectively 92/0, 89/0 and 78/0. Pearson correlation coefficient of test-retest for each of these subtests was respectively 98/0, 94/0 and 91/0 so pearson correlation coefficient for all three subtest was statistically significant (p≤0.001). Conclusion: Based on the results, the test of the phoneme deletion has a high internal consistency and reliability in three subtests of initial, middle and final phoneme deletion and it can be used in clinical and research purposive.
