The Efficiency of an integrated treatment program based on parent-child interaction, parent education, and family resilience on the theory of mind and executive functions of children with high-functioning autism spectrum disorder

Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the Efficiency of an integrated treatment program based on parent-child interaction, parent education, and family resilience on the theory of mind and executive functions of children with high-functioning autism spectrum disorder. Method: This applied research was conducted with a quasi-experimental pre-test-post-test method. The population of this research was autistic children aged 5 to 8 years, high functioning, with speech and language, living in Tehran in 1403, who registered following the call in cyberspace and were randomly assigned to 15 people in each group. The experimental group and their parents received 9 sessions of the program, while the control group did not receive any intervention. The instruments were the Sterman Theory of Mind Test (TOM) and the Behavioral Rating of Executive Functions (BRIEF) questionnaire. Findings: Data analyzed through multivariate analysis of covariance using SPSS version 23 software showed that the mean theory of mind scores in the experimental group increased and the mean executive function problems decreased. Conclusion: An integrated treatment program based on parent-child interaction, parent education, and family resilience is effective in improving theory of mind and reducing executive function problems in children with high-functioning autism.
