Objective: This study was aimed to investigate effect of Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) on effortful control in students with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Method: For this purpose, MBCT was used in a semi-experimental method with pre-test, post-test and follow-up and with control group design. Statistical population included male secondary school students in 1402-1403 academic year in Isfahan city and were diagnosed with ADHD by specialists. Using judgmental and voluntary sampling method, 40 participants were chosen and assigned to two groups randomly (20 participants for each group). To collect data, effortful control subscale by Ellis and Rothbart was used in pre-test, post-test and follow-up stages. MBCT intervention took place in 8 sessions (approximately 45 minute long) for the experimental group but the control group didn’t receive ant intervention. Results: Mixed-design analysis of variance showed significant increase in effortful control of students with ADHD after MBCT program. But these effects were not stable in follow-up stage. Conclusion: Accordingly, we can conclude that MBCT is effective in increasing effortful control in students with ADHD. Further study of other related biological, psychological and social factors is necessary to investigate instability of the results.
