Introduction: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of play therapy (with sand play approach) on the signs of children with posttraumatic stress disorder. Method: The present study was Quasi - experimental with pre-test and post-test design with control group. The statistical population included all children aged 8-11 years with posttraumatic stress disorder in Tehran. The research sample consisted of 30 children with PTSD who were selected during a announcement (15 children in the experimental group and 15 children in the control group). Data were collected using a revised version of the Horowitz children's impact of Event scale. Therapeutic intervention was performed using of Sand Play Therapy. Data were analyzed using MANCOVA and ANCOVA methods. Results: According to the results, the Sand Play Therapy caused a significant decrease in the signs of post- traumatic stress disorder in children with this disorder. Also, the Sand Play Therapy caused a significant decrease in the intrusive thoughts and avoidance of children with post- traumatic stress disorder. Conclusion: Therefore, it can be concluded that one of the effective methods for reducing the signs of post- traumatic disorder is the use of approach of Sand Play Therapy.
