objective:The purpose of this study was to investigated the effectiveness of social skills instruction by method of multimedia instructional on the social compatibility of mentally disable male students in eighth grade of secondary school. Method:mentally retarded male students in the eighth grade of junior forty schools of Tehran were selected using random sampling, and divided in to experimental and control groups using a pre-test and post-test quasi-experimental design. The experimental group received eight 45-minute sessions (one session per week) using multimedia software by researcher designed training, but no training was provided to the control group. Data collection tools, were adaptive behavior scale, researcher designed Winelend scale and educational multimedia applications. Data were analyzed using multivariate analysis of multivariate covariance. Results:The results showed that the experimental group had significantly greater mean adaptive bBehavior than the control group (p>0/001). In addition, adaptive behavior scores of the experimental group in communication skills, social skills and life skills were significant (p>0/001) but not significant in motor skills. Conclusion:Social skills training program using multimedia improved adaptive behavior, communication skills, social skills and life skills mentally retarded students. So planning to provide training to the students through of the method multimedia is particularly important.
