Objective: The purpose of this study was to compare life orientation, moral foundations, and self-inhibition among compatible and incompatible parents of educable intellectually disabled children. Method: This study was a descriptive, causal – comparative one. The study population were all parents having educable intellectually disabled children in Naqadeh- name of a town- in spring 2016. Among them 130 people (65 compatible and 65 incompatible parents) were selected by convenience sampling method. To gather data, four standard questionnaires were applied: Bell adjustment questionnaire, life orientation questionnaire, self-inhibition questionnaire and questionnaire of moral foundations scale. And data analysis was done through multi-variable analysis of variance. Results: The results indicated that there is a significant difference between compatible and incompatible parents in terms of ethical items: ethic-based learning (p=0/02), ethics based on approval of others (p=0/03), and in life orientation (p=0/0001). Moreover, the mean of life orientation of compatible parents was significantly greater than that of incompatible ones. Regarding self-inhibition, there were significant differences among compatible and incompatible parents in terms of impulse control components (p=0/05), respect for others (p=0/005), and responsibility (p=0/05). But in terms of anger appeasing, no significant difference was found. Conclusion: Based on the findings, incompatible parents in comparison with compatible ones reported lower scores in life orientation, self-inhibition, ethic-based learning, and ethics based on approval of others. Thus, planning special training programs are highly recommended to increase life orientation, self-inhibition, and ethical behavior among the parents of intellectually disabled children.
