Phonetic, Phonological, Morphological and Syntactic Features of Speech in Boys with and without Autism

Objective: This study compares phonetic, phonological, morphological and syntactic features of speech in boys with and without Autism. Method: By recording the speech of 10 boys with Autism, their features of speech were compared with 10 typically developing boys. All these boys were 6 to 8 years old. Results: Consonant deletion, substitution of phonemes, atypical stress and  intonation were significantly different between boys with and without Autism boys, while epenthesis, metathesis, tense, subject-verb agreement, prepositions and  negative form of the verbs were not. Conclusion: Boys with Autism had more problems phonetic, phonologic, morphological and syntactic features of speech in comparison with their typically developing age-mates.
