Objective: Cerebral palsy is the most common physical disability in childhood. Studies have shown that the prevalence of emotional problems among children with cerebral palsy is increasing compared to the general population. These children are at high risk of developing emotional difficulties. Play therapy holds a special position among psychotherapeutic approaches for children due to its effective responsiveness to the unique developmental needs of this population. Therefore, the present study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of play therapy based on cognitive-behavioral approach in reducing frustration, physical aggression, and problems with authority figures in children with cerebral palsy. Method: This research was conducted in 2018 within a single-subject experimental design framework with a single baseline, involving three children with cerebral palsy, followed by a one-month follow-up period in Tabriz City. For this purpose, ten sessions of play therapy based on the cognitive-behavioral approach were designed. Data were collected using Nelson Children's Anger Questionnaire. Results: The changes in aggression for all three participants were statistically significant and the clinical effect size for all three participants was above the moderate level.
Conclusion: Based on the data analysis, play therapy was found to have a significant effect in reducing aggression in children with cerebral palsy.
