Abstract

Objective: This study investigates prevalence of children with behavioral disorders in primary schools in Tehran. Method: 1273 students were selected randomly, and their teachers completed Child Behavior Checklists (CBCL). Results: Results indicated that 20.3 percent of children have behavioral disorders based on clinical classification. Also 5.8 percent of students are borderline classification. The most frequent disorder in clinical classification is internalizing behavioral disorders and the least frequent disorder is anxiety. The most frequent problem in borderline group is depression and the lowest frequent problem is thinking problem.  Conclusion: The findings emphasize on the necessity of serious related interventions for these children.

Abstract

Objective: The aim of the current study was to investigate the relation between spiritual intelligence and mental health in mothers of children with and without intellectual disabilities (ID). Method: In this correlational research, the population consisted of students with mild ID, and mothers of regular school students in Gorgan. Eighty mothers were sampled through a multistage sampling procedure and then Brief Symptom Inventory (BSI) and Spiritual Intelligence Self- Report Inventory (SISRI-42) were administered. Results: Results of the study showed a significant relation between spiritual intelligence and mental health in mothers of students with mild ID and mothers of regular school children. In addition, results indicated that mental health of mothers can be predicted by their spiritual intelligence. Conclusion: Based on the acquired findings from this research, it is possible to train the components of spiritual intelligence as a method to improve mental health in these mothers.

Abstract

Objective: The present study aimed to examine the effectiveness of cognitive rehabilitation program based on prospective memory on the behavioral problems and executive functions of attention in children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Methods: The present research was a quasi-experimental study with pre-test post-test design and a control group. The participants were 32 girls with ADHD selected from schools in Kermanshah, Iran using convenience sampling. Participants were divided into experimental and control groups (16 each). The experimental group received 18 sessions of cognitive rehabilitation program based on prospective memory, while the control group did not. The instruments were Rutter's Children's Behavior Questionnaire and the Stroop Color and Word Test. Data were analyzed by MANCOVA. Results: The results showed that the cognitive rehabilitation program based on prospective memory had a significant effect on the behavioral problems and executive functions of attention in the participants (p≤0.0001). Conclusion: According to the findings, the cognitive rehabilitation program based on prospective memory improved the behavioral problems and executive functions of attention in children with ADHD. Thus, this program can be implemented to improve these problems in the target group, and planning is essential for its implementation.
