The Association between Mothers’ Parenting Styles and Self-esteem in Students with and without Hearing Loss

Objective: The aim of this study was to compare the relationship between mothers’ parenting styles and self-esteem in high school girl students with and without hearing loss in Tehran. Method: 59 high school girl students with and 82 without hearing loss were recruited and Coopersmit’s self-esteem, and Baumrind’s parenting styles questionnaires were used to collect the data. Results: No significant difference was observed between mothers’ parenting styles in the two groups. There exists a significant difference between students with and without hearing loss self-esteem. Conclusion: This study provides evidence about maternal parenting styles and self-esteem in students with hearing loss.
