Objective: Spine as the axis of the body may be subject to damages and abnormalities for various reasons and various activities. The aim of this study was to compare the prevalence of spinal abnormalities of mentally retarded 7-15 years old students with normal students in Arak. Method: This is a descriptive-analytical study conducted on the exceptional and normal 7-15 years old female students of Arak in the academic year of 2012-2013. Totally, 69 students were selected randomly from exceptional and regular schools. In order to evaluate the anomalies of the upper body, New York test was used. Results: The results of the analysis showed that the prevalence of malformations and abnormalities of pelvic obliquity, lordosis, kyphosis, uneven shoulders, tortikolis among exceptional students have been reported to be more common than among normal students, however, the difference is not statically significant. Meanwhile, there is a significant difference for the prevalence of scoliosis among normal and mentally retarded students. Conclusion: This study showed that the students with intellectual disability have more musculoskeletal disorders than the ordinary students and early detection of musculoskeletal disorders in these patients can be helpful for improving muscle strength and endurance and mitigating postural abnormalities in this group of people.
