Effects of Aerobic Training on the Mental Health and Happiness of Female Students with Intellectual Disability

Objective: Happiness and mental health are important for children with intellectual disability, and intervention is required to improve these variables. Thus, the present study aimed to examine the effectiveness of aerobic training on the mental health and happiness of female students with intellectual disability. Method: The statistical population included all female students with intellectual disability studying in Saleheh School, Mashhad, Iran. Thirty students were selected by convenience sampling based on their scores on the General Health Questionnaire and the Oxford Happiness Inventory and divided into Groups A and B (n=15). Group A received 16 aerobic group training sessions, while Group B served as the wait-list control group. ANCOVA was used for data analysis. Results: Results showed that aerobic training significantly enhances happiness and mental health and reduces depression, anxiety, insomnia, physical symptoms, and social dysfunction among students with intellectual disability.
